JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC., completed the demolition of a single family dwelling, associated landscape, and personal property after a firestorm in Reno.  The fire created a path of destruction that snaked along the edge of the foothills, sometimes burning one home to the ground while neighboring houses on either side went untouched.

JM ENVIRONMENTAL, INC., was contracted to remove and dispose of the 4,000 SF single family dwelling, shortly after the fire.  The scope of the work included complete demolition of the residence, carport, and basement, including all below grade footings and infrastructure, the driveway, approximately 2,000 SF of hardscape, and all damaged landscape.  Additional site work included identification and capping of all utilities, (water, electric, gas, sewer, data) with flags and fluorescent markings.  Imported compactible fill, decomposed granite and clean fill dirt were used to bring the basement to site grade, and final grading of the entire site was completed to meet the requirements of the City of Reno Building Department.  Storm Water Pollution Prevention Plan and Practices were implemented using straw waddle, silt fence, and straw covering over the final grade to meet Washoe County requirements.  In addition, SWPPP maintenance will be included through spring 2012.  The entire site was also hand raked and magnetically swept for final detail.

Our customers love us! You will too! Rick from Sacramento writes:

Mr. Moore,

I want to thank JM Environmental for the outstanding work at our home. We had floorcovering that contained asbestos and had to come out. From our first contact with Eric David, to the crew who did the work and even the crew who took down the plastic tent, everyone was professional, left our kitchen in great shape and were a pleasure to have around. When I had a concern about a newly discovered layer of flooring, Eric was quick to put my fears to rest.

JM Thanks Clients and Colleagues With Open House in Roseville

Posted by Maura Hill on 29 March, 2011

The JM Team welcomed clients and colleagues to our March Madness Open House Event on Friday March 25th. The day started off with coffee and heartfelt welcomes as our guests were taken on personal tours of the JM facility. “We wanted to show the people that depend on our services the kind of organization and ability that our team achieves,” said John Moore. A spotless facility combined with exceptionally well maintained equipment and vehicles allows the JM Team to exceed expectations from start to finish.

Next, owner John Moore conducted an educational session covering topics such as asbestos abatement procedures and lead certifications. The attendees were happy to share in John’s almost two decades worth of environmental industry leading knowledge. One guest stated that he was “all ears when JM spoke to the crowd.” Removing the mystery surrounding the abatement world is important to JM Environmental. “Classes like this give our clients the confidence to make decisions involving environmental work on their claims. The more informed they are, the better the process is for everyone,” said Sr. Estimator and Project Manager Eric David.

Lunch followed featuring the culinary expertise of our own Director of Operations, Art Coussoulis. Art marinated, grilled and sliced up some mouth watering tri tip and chicken. “Anyone can buy a meat tray from Safeway. We wanted to do lunch just like we do abatement – exceed your expectations with an individual touch,” said Art. Raffle prizes were given away after lunch and everyone in attendance went home with a little something as a thank you.

The JM Team is proud of what we do every day but we are also grateful for every opportunity that we receive. Each new job is a chance to earn our customer’s business next time. Our valued working relationships in the industry are a result of that attitude. Thanks to all of our clients and colleagues that made our March Madness Open House such a great success.

Asbestos and Lead Abatement in Lincoln, CA

JM Environmental was proud to respond to the unfortunate events at the Glen Edwards Middle School over the weekend of October 9-10.  JM was called in to address the presence of asbestos and lead in the affected building material.

Following this link to see our crews in action:

When houses and buildings burn, asbestos fibers can become airborne, creating a potentially hazardous situation.

Many buildings constructed before 1981 have asbestos-containing materials. Buildings constructed after 1981 will have less of these materials, however, burning of even relatively smaller amounts of these materials may release asbestos fibers into the air. Building materials in homes built after 1981 may also contain asbestos if they were manufactured before the ban or made outside of the United States.  Asbestos is a known carcinogen and a respiratory hazard.

The only way to determine if asbestos is present in a burned-out area is to have a certified asbestos consultant test the material. When professionals clean up asbestos-containing materials, the following safe handling practices are observed.

  • Avoid mixing of suspected asbestos-containing materials with other debris.
  • Where asbestos-containing materials are suspected to be mixed with debris, ALL debris is assumed to be contaminated and should be adequately wetted, double-bagged in thick plastic sheeting, recorded on a manifest and disposed of as asbestos-containing waste.
  • A survey by a certified asbestos consultant and/or site technician may be conducted to separate asbestos materials from other debris in order to reduce the amount of debris that needs to be disposed of as asbestos-containing waste, or to clear a site as non-hazardous.
  • The ONLY accepted test for bulk suspected asbestos-containing materials is Polarized Light Microscopy; testing is typically done to prove that there is NOT asbestos in the material.
  • Adequate wetting is required for removal and demolition for all asbestos-containing material.
  • For wetting small areas, use a spray dispenser. For larger areas, use a water hose with a nozzle for a fine, low-pressure spray or mist.  When available, use water mixed with a wetting agent or surfactant.
  • Wetting down vehicles prior to leaving the property is advised. Respiratory protection and suitable Tyvek-style clothing is advised during inspection of dry burn sites. Decontamination of the clothing and breathing apparatus is advised at the end of the inspection.  Disposable Tyvek suits should be disposed of as hazardous waste.
  • Where asbestos-containing materials are known or assumed to be present, the debris should be stabilized by wetting and covered with plastic sheeting until it is scheduled to be removed.  Wind-blown dry materials will release hazardous asbestos fibers.
  • Asbestos-containing materials must be disposed of at a landfill approved to receive asbestos.
